Travis Kelce is not thinking about next season yet.
After a tough year for the Kansas City Chiefs, the superstar tight end wants to keep the focus on his last three games instead of his playing future and contract, which will be up at the end of this season.
“I’d rather keep the focus of the media and everything on this team right now,” Kelce said at a press conference on Friday. “All the conversations I have with the team and everything moving forward will be with them. I think it’s a unique time in my life. Unfortunately, I’ve got three games left, and I know when the season ends this year. Typically, we go into it, and we don’t know when it’s going to end, and that’s the beauty of it. Just trying to make sure that everybody here knows that I’m focused on trying to win football games, these last three games.”
Last month, Kelce said he would decide whether to return to play or retire by early March, before the start of NFL free agency.
The Chiefs have been eliminated from playoff contention after going 6-8 in the first 14 games of the season. Patrick Mahomes tore his ACL in last week's loss to the Chargers. He's since undergone successful surgery and has begun the rehab process.
Given the recovery necessary for Mahomes' injury and Kelce's uncertain future, that Week 15 loss may have been the duo's final game together.
