Brandon Aubrey isn't going to let being a professional athlete get in the way of his civic duties.
In one of the more bizarre reasons to be listed on an injury report, the Dallas Cowboys kicker was listed as a non-participant for Wednesday's practice not because of any ailment to his body, but because of jury duty.
According to a report from Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Aubrey has been selected to a 12-person jury for a felony assault case.
Harris reports that the Cowboys tried to get Aubrey out of his jury duty obligations, but the kicker insisted on making it to court. Aubrey is expected to also miss practice on Thursday and Friday, but Harris reports the judge is expected to work around his football schedule for the remainder of the case.
Losing Aubrey's leg would be a big blow to the Cowboys, as he has been one of the best kickers in the league since joining last season. Aubrey went 36-for-38 on field goals in his rookie season, including 10-for-10 from 50-plus yards and was named a first-team All-Pro.
Through six games this season, he is 17-of-19 on field goals with one of his makes coming from 65 yards.
Aubrey wasn't drafted by the Cowboys, but signed with the team after two seasons in the USFL.
He was, however, drafted in a different sport. Toronto FC selected the former soccer player in the first round of the 2017 MLS Draft. He made his professional debut on March 25, 2017, starting for Toronto FC II.
