For 24 years, fans of 31 NFL teams banded together to root against Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots. Those fans are coming together once again, but this time in support of the legendary head coach.
According to a report from ESPN's Seth Wickersham and Don Van Natta Jr., Belichick was snubbed from the Pro Football Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility after falling short of the 40 out of 50 votes needed to earn enshrinement.
Indisputably one of the most successful coaches of all time, Belichick's resume is without comparison.
Over his 29 years in the NFL, he won six Super Bowls as a head coach and two as a co-ordinator, with his eight total championships double that of the next closest, Chuck Noll (four).
Belichick has nine conference championships to his name and is third in regular-season wins, with 302. When adding his 31 playoff wins (most all-time), his 333 total wins are second only to legendary Hall of Fame coach Don Shula (347).
So, understandably, when news came down that Belichick would have to wait for a bust in Canton, football fans took to social media to protest the decision, calling it a stain on the history of the Hall and the game itself.
Here are some of the reactions from around the football world.
