The New York Giants announced on Thursday that a player tested positive for COVID-19 late Wednesday night.

According to a team statement, the player was immediately self-isolated and contact tracing began.

"All of the player's close contacts were identified and were informed to remain home today," reads the Giants statement. "Those individuals will participate in meetings remotely. We are working closely with the NFL's Chief Medical Officer regarding next protocol steps."

According to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport, the player who tested positive is an offensive lineman and all but four of the team's players from that position group are now in quarantine.

The Giants say their training centre will remain open and the rest of the team will continue with its normal schedule.

New York is scheduled to host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this week on Monday Night Football.
