Baltimore Ravens star Mark Andrews says flight attendants, a doctor and a nurse are "the real heroes" for helping care for a woman suffering a medical emergency during a flight he was on Thursday.
But another passenger was quick to credit Andrews for his significant role.
Andrews put out a statement after a man named Andrew Springs posted on X (formerly Twitter) about the Ravens tight end's actions on the flight from Baltimore to Phoenix (Andrews was born in Scottsdale, Ariz.).
Springs said the doctor and nurse could not find a strong pulse and "her blood pressure was extremely low, and (she) required oxygen to breathe."
Springs said Andrews then stepped up and asked if her blood sugar could be an issue and told the people around her he had a diabetic testing kit. Andrews was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes as a child.
Springs said Andrews instructed the doctor and nurse how to use the kit and then the woman's heart rate stabilized.
"Paramedics met the flight as soon as we landed. Andrews deplaned quietly. No fanfare," Springs wrote. "As he has done his whole career, he stepped up in a huge moment when people needed him most.
"Watching complete strangers spring into action to help save someone’s life is truly amazing."
Andrews' season ended Sunday when the Ravens lost to the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship.
