Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford suffered an apparent ankle injury in Saturday’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and will not return, the team announced.
Stafford appeared to injure his ankle in the first quarter. After being grabbed by Buccaneers linebacker Devin White, Stafford’s ankle can be seen twisting awkwardly. He limped off the field and was later seen on the sidelines receiving treatment before ultimately leaving the game.
Prior to halftime, Stafford returned to the sidelines in uniform, wearing a hat and mask, and looked at video footage with one of the Lions’ coaches.
The team has not yet provided an update on the severity of his injury.
Chase Daniel took Stafford’s place as Detroit’s quarterback.
