As Championship Sunday approaches in the NFL, wagering enthusiasts are looking to cap their season by hitting on a range of prop bets that feature some of the league’s marquee players.
But in many cases, bettors will first need to determine what matters more: recent form or career achievements?
A.J. Brown is a great example. Right now, the most-bet player prop at BetMGM sportsbook for Sunday’s games is on the Eagles receiver to amass more than 55.5 receiving yards.
Brown is, of course, one of the league’s elite wideouts. He’s put up more than 1,000 receiving yards in five of his six years as a pro. His skills are unquestioned.
But so far in the playoffs, his biggest moment in the spotlight came when he was found reading a self-help book on the sideline during a game.
Brown has had only three catches for a total of 24 yards in Philadelphia’s first two contests. And this week, he’ll be facing off against a Washington team that boasted one of the top-ranked pass defences during the 2024 season.
When it comes to the Brown player prop, talent says take the over. But recent form urges you to look at the under. And hey, if you get it wrong, take solace from the pages of the book that Brown was reading on the sideline: “Every problem you face is an opportunity to learn and grow.”
A similar challenge can be found in one of Xavier Worthy’s player props. The over-under on pass receptions by the speedy Chiefs receiver is set at 4.5 on football odds at BetMGM.
Worthy’s recent form makes that number look tempting. Granted, the rookie struggled for the better part of his inaugural NFL season to establish himself as a reliable target for Patrick Mahomes. But Worthy has averaged six catches per game over his last six games and has emerged as a priority receiver.
Sometimes, recent form and career achievements line up perfectly. Take Saquon Barkley: Fresh off a performance against the Rams in which he had touchdown runs of 62 and 78 yards, Barkley’s over-under for longest rush against the Commanders is set at a tantalizing 20.5 yards.
Intriguing, right? Recent form certainly agrees. So do the longer-term trendlines. The Eagles RB put up 296 rushing yards against Washington in two regular-season games this year, running wild against one of the league’s worst rushing defences.
In terms of getting the ball into the end zone, the most-bet player at the BetMGM sportsbook is Buffalo QB Josh Allen at even odds of +100. Allen scored twice in last week’s divisional playoff game against Baltimore — and contributed one of the plays of the year in an epic touchdown run against the Chiefs during the regular season.
