The Green Bay Packers will be without star quarterback Aaron Rodgers on Sunday afternoon when they visit the Kansas City Chiefs as 7-point underdogs on the NFL odds for Week 9 at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.
Rodgers has been ruled out for the contest after reportedly testing positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday, placing in doubt the seven-game straight-up win streak that Green Bay takes into Sunday afternoon’s matchup at Arrowhead Stadium.
The loss of Rodgers is a devastating blow for a Packers team that is expected to turn to second-year quarterback Jordan Love, who has made just seven total pass attempts in his short NFL career. Rodgers has thrown for 17 touchdowns during the team’s win streak, capped by a two-score performance in last week’s 24-21 victory over the previously undefeated Arizona Cardinals.
The news has also devastated the Packers’ position at betting sites, where the game had been set as a pick’em as recently as Wednesday morning.
The Chiefs return home after eking out a narrow 20-17 win over the New York Giants on Monday night that evened their SU record at 4-4. The two-time defending AFC champions have struggled to score, averaging just 18.5 points per game over their past four contests.
Elsewhere on the Week 9 NFL odds, the Cardinals will be trying to rebound from their first defeat as they visit the San Francisco 49ers as 2.5-point betting favourites. Arizona scored 31 or more points on six occasions during its season-opening 7-0 SU run, and is among the league leaders with a 6-2 record against the spread including a trio of outright road wins as betting underdogs.
The Niners return home after posting a 33-22 win in Chicago but have been a massive disappointment on home turf where they have lost 10 of their last 11 games. That run started with a 24-20 loss to Arizona in Week 1 of last season.
As well, a pair of losing streaks are on the line as the Miami Dolphins host the Houston Texans as 6.5-point favourites. The Dolphins return home after dropping a 26-11 decision in Buffalo last weekend that marked their fourth loss by double digits so far this season. The Texans have been winless since claiming a 37-21 win over Jacksonville in Week 1. Houston has been limited to nine or fewer points in four of its last six outings, but has claimed victory in eight of nine all-time meetings with the Dolphins according to the OddsShark NFL Database.
Also, the Bills will be looking to extend their lead atop the AFC East division standings as they visit Jacksonville as heavy 14.5-point chalk on Sunday, while the Dallas Cowboys vie for a seventh straight win as they host the Denver Broncos as big 10-point favourites
