The Carolina Panthers have placed running back Christian McCaffrey on injured reserve with a hamstring injury, ruling him out for at least another three weeks.

McCaffrey will be eligible to return as soon as Week 9 against the New England Patriots.

The star back was injured on Sept. 23 against the Houston Texans. McCaffrey has practised on a limited basis since, but was held out on Thursday and Friday and was already ruled out for Sunday's game against the Minnesota Vikings.

This means Canadian running back Chuba Hubbard should earn more starts while McCaffrey recovers. Hubbard, drafted in the fourth round by the Panthers earlier this year, has played in five games, accumulating 220 yards on 56 carries this season.
