The start of Kurtis Rourke's professional career is on hold.
The Canadian quarterback is expected to be placed on the San Francisco 49ers' non-football injury list ahead of the start of training camp this week, Matt Maiocco of NBC San Francisco reported Tuesday.
Rourke was selected by the 49ers in the seventh round of this year's NFL Draft after leading upstart Indiana to the 12-team College Football Playoff last year.
Shortly after the season, Rourke had surgery for a torn ACL — the second significant knee injury of his college career.
The native of Oakville, Ont., previously suffered a knee injury at Ohio, his college team, before transferring to Indiana for his final NCAA season.
Brock Purdy is San Francisco's starting quarterback. He's followed on the depth chart by off-season signing Mac Jones and Tanner Mordecai.
Rourke is the younger brother of B.C. Lions star quarterback Nathan Rourke.
