The Chicago Bears may have to turn to their third-string quarterback in Week 3.
Starter Caleb Williams is likely out with a hamstring injury, and now backup QB Tyson Bagent has been placed in the concussion protocol, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported Tuesday.
If both Bagent and Williams are unable to go, that would leave third-stringer Case Keenum in line to start against the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday night.
Keenum has been in the league since 2013, but hasn't played in a regular-season game since 2023 when he started two games for the Houston Texans.
The Bears' QB room took a big hit when Williams was injured in Sunday’s 9-3 loss to Minnesota after he got hurt on a scramble deep in Vikings territory with about 7 1/2 minutes left. The No. 1 pick in the 2024 draft was replaced by Bagent, who finished the game.
Williams' initial reaction to the injury had many around the league fearing the worst.
But it appears Williams has avoided a long-term injury, with Bears coach Ben Johnson calling his right hamstring injury a “week-to-week” situation.
Williams hasn't officially been ruled out for Monday's game, but he will most likely be forced to miss at least one game.
Bagent was 5 for 9 for 54 yards against the Vikings. He was sacked by Dallas Turner on the final play of the game.
Bagent, 26, had a record-setting career at Division II Shepherd University before signing with the Bears in May 2023 as an undrafted free agent.
The Bears are 1-1 after Sunday's loss, while the Eagles have started the season 2-0.
