With the Arizona Cardinals naming Jacoby Brissett as the team's starting QB for a fourth consecutive week, Kyler Murray will get some much-needed extra time to recover.
The usual Cardinals starter under centre has missed three consecutive games with a foot injury, most recently sidelined for Arizona's primetime win over the Dallas Cowboys on Monday night.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter on Tuesday, Murray and the Cardinals consulted multiple doctors on the injury and were given a 4-8 week timeline for recovery, with an increased chance of setback until it's properly healed.
There was optimism that Murray could play against Dallas, but head coach Jonathan Gannon said the former No. 1 overall pick wasn't ready.
Gannon also told the media that, even if Murray were healthy, he was going to go with Brissett as the starting QB.
Before going down with injury, Murray made five appearances this season and threw for 962 yards, six touchdowns and three interceptions with a 68.3 completion percentage. He led the Cardinals to a 2-3 showing this season — the team started the season 2-0 before losing five in a row by a total of 13 points, until Monday's victory.
Now, Brissett will get the Week 10 start against the Seattle Seahawks for an NFC West rivalry game on Sunday, giving Murray time to recover.
