Carson Wentz is not interested in being QB2 for the Philadelphia Eagles.
The quarterback will seek to move on from the Eagles if Jalen Hurts remains the starter, sources tell ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Wentz was pulled in the third quarter of Philadelphia’s Week 13 matchup against the Green Bay Packers. Hurts finished the game and has been atop the depth chart ever since.
Hurts steered the Eagles to victory in his first career start in Week 14, but Eagles coach Doug Pederson has not confirmed if the rookie will start for the remainder of the season. Despite its disappointing 4-8-1 record, Philadelphia is still fighting for a playoff spot in the NFC East.
Wentz has passed for 2,620 yards and 16 touchdowns this season, but leads the NFL in interceptions thrown (15) and sacks taken (50). He signed a four-year, $128-million extension in 2019 that runs through the 2024 season.
If the Eagles do wish to move on from Wentz, they would need to make a decision by mid-March, when the new league year starts. Wentz’s $22-million 2022 salary becomes fully guaranteed and his 2021 roster bonus of $10 million is paid out on the third day of the new league year, per Schefter.
