Los Angeles Chargers head coach Anthony Lynn announced that linebacker Drue Tranquill broke his left fibula during Sunday's game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

"He's going to be out for a while," Lynn said during Monday's press conference. "I'm not sure if it's going to be the season, but he's definitely out for right now."

Tranquill was injured during the Chargers' second defensive drive of the game on Sunday. A cart was brought out shortly after the injury occurred and an air cast was placed on Tranquill's left leg.

Before the 25-year-old was carted off the field, Bengals defensive end and former Notre Dame teammate Khalid Kareem came over to comfort Tranquill. He was emotional as he left the field.

This is Tranquill's second year in the NFL. Seen as a rising star for some in the league, the Fort Wayne, Ind., native recorded 75 tackles and one pass deflection in 13 games last season. He also was a member of the PFWA All-Rookie team.

In his five years at Notre Dame, Tranquill was named captain for the 2017 and 2018 season and won the Wuerffel Trophy in 2018.

Tranquill was drafted in 2019 by the Chargers in the fourth round, 130th overall.
