The injury-riddled Los Angeles Chargers will be without another notable name for the foreseeable future.
Starting running back Omarion Hampton, who left Sunday's game against the Washington Commanders with an ankle injury, was placed on injured reserve, head coach Jim Harbaugh told reporters on Monday.
Hampton was spotted leaving the locker room wearing a walking boot, according to Daniel Popper of The Athletic, after the Chargers' Week 5 loss.
Hampton was inadvertently tripped by a Commanders defender with just under two minutes remaining in the third quarter before limping off the field. He was listed as questionable to return, but did not receive a touch following the injury. He had 44 yards on 12 carries before exiting.
Los Angeles selected Hampton 22nd overall in the 2025 draft. The 22-year-old split carries with Najee Harris in Weeks 1 and 2, before taking over after Harris suffered a season-ending injury in Week 3 against Denver.
Hampton carried the ball 19 times vs. the Broncos, then broke out in Week 4 with 12 carries for 128 yards and a score.
With the rookie set to miss at least four games, Hassan Haskins and Kamani Vidal figure to lead the backfield.
The Chargers were already without Joe Alt and Rashawn Slater — the team's two starting tackles — Harris, and star pass rusher Khalil Mack. They travel to Miami to face the Dolphins in Week 6.
