The Indianapolis Colts were unable to find a fair-value trade offer for running back Jonathan Taylor and will keep the 2021 All-Pro on the physically unable to perform list, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Tuesday.
As a result, Taylor will miss the first four games of the 2023 season.
The Colts have until the Oct. 31 trade deadline to deal Taylor.
Indianapolis gave Taylor permission to seek a trade on Aug. 21.
According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, two teams showed significant interest in Taylor, but Colts general manager Chris Ballard did not feel proposed compensation was enough to close the deal. Taylor remaining on the PUP list is indicative of no imminent trade for the former Wisconsin Badger, Rapoport adds.
As a rookie, Taylor rushed for 1,169 yards and averaged 5.0 yards per carry after replacing the injured Marlon Mack as Indy's starter. In 2021, he led the league with 1,811 yards, 18 TD runs and 2,171 yards from scrimmage while sharing the league lead in total touchdowns (20).
The bad ankle cost him six games last season, and he wound up rushing for 861 yards, 4.5 yards per carry and four TDs — all career lows — as Indy sputtered to a 4-12-1 mark.
