The Washington Commanders will have to turn to backup quarterback Marcus Mariota against the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday.
Commanders star QB Jayden Daniels will be out for the game with a low-grade hamstring strain, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported Wednesday.
Daniels' injury is not considered long-term, Rapoport added.
The 24-year-old signal caller was injured in Sunday's 44-22 loss against the Dallas Cowboys. Daniels had his right leg turned awkwardly while being sacked and losing a fumble midway through the third quarter.
After walking gingerly to the sideline, Daniels went briefly into the medical tent before coming out and jogging through the bench area and then into the tunnel toward the locker room with Washington down 27-15.
Mariota will now get his third start of the season, as Daniels missed two games earlier this year with a knee injury.
In the two games Mariota started, the Commanders went 1-1.
After making the NFC Championship game last season, the Commanders are off to a 3-4 start in 2025.
