NFL teams have been calling the Philadelphia Eagles to inquire about the availability of quarterback Carson Wentz, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo.
The Eagles have reportedly told teams that they are in no rush to trade the starting quarterback but remain open to offers. One of the teams that have been linked to Wentz is the Indianapolis Colts who have been making calls on all the available starters on the market.
Any trade involving the former second overall pick from 2016 would likey come before March 19 when he is due a $10 million roster bonus. Wentz’s $128 million, four-year contract kicks in this year and if he is traded, the Eagles would carry $33.9 million in dead cap in 2021.
The 28-year old has not formally asked for a trade but reports suggest he would not stay with the team if Jalen Hurts remains the starter. Wentz lost the starting job in Week 13 with Hurts starting the remainder of the season as the Eagles’ top pivot.
Wentz passed for 2,620 yards and 16 touchdowns this season, but also recorded 15 interceptions and was sacked 50 times.
