New Orleans Saints director of pro scouting Terry Fontenot will reportedly be hired as the next general manager of the Atlanta Falcons, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports.
Schefter adds that Fontenot and the Falcons still need to complete a contract negotiation, which can be done now that the Saints have been eliminated from the playoffs.
Fontenot has spent the last 16 seasons with the Saints and been director of pro scouting for the past six years. Before his promotion, he was a pro scout with the team. In 2012, the Saints tabbed him to attend the Stanford Business School’s Executive Education NFL-Stanford Program for Managers to help him advance his career in NFL front offices.
A native of Lake Charles, LA., Fontenot was a four-year letterman safety at Tulane University in New Orleans from 1999-2002.
The Falcons fired general manager Thomas Dimitroff and head coach Dan Quinn after starting the season 0-5. The team hired Titans offensive coordinator Arthur Smith as their new head coach on Saturday.
