Michael Penix Jr. could be back for Week 6.
The Atlanta Falcons quarterback's rib injury is not considered serious, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on Monday.
Penix might be able to return for the Falcons' next game against the Chicago Bears on Sunday, but the team is being cautious with its QB who began his season in Week 3 after a torn ACL last year, per Schefter.
The 2024 No. 8 pick sustained the injury in the fourth quarter of the Falcons' 30-23 overtime loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday. He returned after missing just one play, but was forced back to the sidelines during overtime as fill-in Tua Tagovailoa threw a game-ending interception.
Penix said the injury worsened the longer he sat, but added post-game he intends to be back next week.
“Knowing me, I’m going to be ready to go next week because I sat out enough in my career,” he said. “I’m going to do everything I can in the training room, make sure I get back to where I want to be.”
Penix has led the Falcons (2-3) to blowout wins over the Packers and Saints, and played fairly well against the Ravens, against whom he was 19-for-32 for 240 yards and a touchdown while getting sacked three times.
