The Detroit Lions have found a new backup running back after trading away David Montgomery.
Former Kansas City Chiefs RB Isiah Pacheco is set to sign with the Lions, joining Jahmyr Gibbs in the Detroit backfield, NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported Tuesday.
The financial terms of the deal have not yet been reported.
Pacheco, 27, struggled in his fourth season last year, picking up only 462 rushing yards and one touchdown in 13 games after missing time with an MCL sprain midway through the campaign.
Selected by the Chiefs in the seventh round (251st overall) of the 2022 NFL Draft, Pacheco has 2,537 career rushing yards and 14 touchdowns on the ground, but most of those numbers were put up over his first two seasons in the league.
He has added 554 receiving yards and three touchdowns through the air over his 51 games in the NFL.
The Vineland, N.J., native was a key contributor in the Chiefs' back-to-back Super Bowl titles in the 2022 and 2023 seasons. In the latter, Pacheco ran for 313 yards with three touchdowns over the four-game playoff run.
After finishing as the NFL's sixth-best rushing attack in 2024, the Lions took a step back this past season, finishing 14th with 2,041 yards, leaning on the duo of Gibbs and Montgomery.
The Lions traded Montgomery to the Houston Texans last week for offensive lineman Juice Scruggs, a 2026 fourth-round pick and a 2027 seventh-round pick.
