New England Patriots starting quarterback Cam Newton and Kansas City Chiefs practice squad quarterback Jordan Ta’amu were both added to the NFL’s COVID-19 reserve list released on Saturday afternoon.
The Patriots announced on Saturday morning that a player, which the team did not name, had tested positive for COVID-19 late Friday. In its statement, the team says the player immediately entered self-quarantine and that several additional players, coaches and staff who had been in close contact with that player had received point of care tests that came back negative.
In response to the positive tests on both the Patriots and Chiefs, the NFL has postponed Sunday’s scheduled game in Kansas City and will look to move it to either Monday or Tuesday.
The positive tests in New England and Kansas City come after an outbreak of the novel coronavirus in the Tennessee Titans organization that has seen a total 17 COVID-19 cases among players and staff since Sept. 29.
