There is a new highest-paid corner in the NFL.
The New England Patriots and Christian Gonzalez agreed to a record-breaking four-year, $135 million extension with $102 million in guaranteed money, according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport.
Jordan Schultz was first to report the agreement, which is the largest ever given to a cornerback.
Gonzalez, 24, was an All-Pro in 2024 and was one of the most important pieces of the Patriots' defence last season as they returned to the playoffs and reached the Super Bowl.
In 2025, he had 69 total tackles and 10 passes defended in 14 games, then added 19 tackles and seven passes defended in the playoffs.
Gonzalez made headlines over the weekend when he suggested he might not play Wednesday against the Seattle Seahawks without an extension.
"I’m here right now," Gonzalez said on Saturday. "I’m here. Like I said, I’m worried about this practice, focused on this practice. I’ll always be where my feet are and do what I’ve got to do."
With his contract now in hand, Gonzalez should be a big part of the Patriots' defence once again this season.
