Report: Short-handed Bills defence set to play without S Poyer vs. Dolphins

Buffalo Bills free safety Jordan Poyer (21) celebrates his interception with cornerback Taron Johnson (24) and safety Micah Hyde (23) in the second half of an NFL football game in New Orleans, Thursday, Nov. 25, 2021. The Bills won 31-6 (Butch Dill/AP).

An already thin Buffalo Bills defence appears set to take another hit after ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported late Saturday that safety Jordan Poyer is not expected to play Sunday against the Miami Dolphins because of a foot injury.

Fellow All-Pro safety Micah Hyde (neck) went on season-ending injured reserve earlier Saturday.

Three other key members of the Bills' defence already had been ruled out -- defensive tackles Ed Oliver (ankle) and Jordan Phillips (hamstring) and cornerback Dane Jackson (neck).

The Bills will now have two inexperienced players at safety along with two rookie cornerbacks -- Christian Benford and Kaiir Elam -- for the showdown between the AFC East's two unbeaten teams in south Florida.
