The New Orleans Saints' kicker situation continues to be a mess.
After missing two of his three field goal attempts in the 24-10 loss to the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday, the Saints have released kicker Blake Grupe and have signed kicker Cade York to the practice squad, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reported on Tuesday.
Grupe has missed eight of his 25 field goals on the season, with his longest make being from 54 yards. His misses on Sunday came from 38 yards and 47 yards.
The 27-year-old has been the Saints' kicker for the past three seasons, after the team traded away Wil Lutz to the Denver Broncos in 2023.
During his time in Denver, Lutz has missed just twice inside 40 yards and was recently named the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week.
To man the position in his stead, the Saints have brought in York, who is expected to compete with practice squad kicker Charlie Smyth for the starting position.
York played 17 games with the Cleveland Browns in 2022 and made 24 of his 32 field goals. After being cut by the Browns, York split six games between the Cincinnati Bengals and the Washington Commanders in 2024, where he went nine-of-13 on the year.
