The Seattle Seahawks will be without their starting quarterback as they take on the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday.
Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald announced Wednesday that Darnold has been ruled out for the game and that Drew Lock will handle the duties under centre as they look to build on their Week 1 victory over the New England Patriots.
Macdonald added that Seattle does not expect to place Darnold on the injured reserve.
The team announced Monday that Darnold has been dealing with a “very unique, soft tissue” glute injury with no set timeline for his return.
Darnold was injured on Seattle’s first series against the Patriots. He was sacked by Dre’Mont Jones and limped off the field.
Lock replaced him and went 16-of-22 for 187 yards and a touchdown as the Seahawks rallied for a 13-10 win.
Darnold, 29, did not miss a game last season as he led the Seahawks to a Super Bowl title. He threw for 4,048 yards with 25 touchdowns and 14 interceptions as Seattle won a franchise-record 14 games.
