The Pittsburgh Steelers have signed vice-president and general manager Kevin Colbert to a one-year contract extension, keeping him with the team through at least the 2022 NFL Draft, the organization announced Monday.
After the best start in franchise history (11-0), the Steelers ended the season with a 1-4 run to finish the season 12-4. Understanding the tail end collapse and rebuilding will be part of a challenging 22nd year for the 64-year-old GM.
“I want to thank (Steelers president) Art Rooney for his continued support in extending my contract another year,” Colbert said in a statement. “We’ve been able to accomplish some great things, but my determination to help the Steelers reach our ultimate goal to win another Super Bowl has never been greater.”
With Ben Roethlisberger returning, despite reducing salary cap hit by restructuring his contract, many of the team’s 20 pending free agents including star receiver including Juju Smith-Schuster are likely to sign with another squad.
