Making just his second start since Week 4, Washington Football Team quarterback Dwayne Haskins was benched in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s game in favour of Taylor Heinicke.
Haskins, the Football Team’s first-round pick from 2019 (15th overall), has had a bumpy go of things in the early stages of his career. He was benched earlier this season after the team opened 1-3, but he resumed starting duties last week due to Alex Smith’s injury.
On Sunday against the Carolina Panthers, Haskins completed 14-of-28 passes for 154 yards and two interceptions. He was removed with the Panthers leading, 20-6.
For Heinike, Sunday marked his first NFL action since 2018, when he appeared in six games (one start) for the Panthers.
Washington (6-8) is in the driver’s seat to win the NFC East and clinch a playoff berth, which they can still do next week regardless of Sunday’s outcome.
