Sometimes the grass really isn't greener on the other side.
At least that's the case for veteran wide receiver Keenan Allen, who is returning to the Los Angeles Chargers on a one-year contract, per a team announcement.
NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported that the deal is worth $8.52 million.
Allen, 33, spent the first 11 years of his NFL career with the Chargers before being traded to the Chicago Bears for the 2024 campaign.
With the Bears, Allen totalled 744 yards and a team-high seven touchdowns on 70 receptions. Chicago aimed to improve its receiver room for rookie quarterback Caleb Williams by bringing in Allen and Rome Odunze to complement D.J. Moore, but the Bears offence underwhelmed despite the skill position additions.
So now Allen, a third-round pick of the Chargers in 2013, will return to the franchise where he made six Pro-Bowls, including five straight from 2017 to 2021.
Allen ranks second in Chargers history in receiving yards (10,530) and catches (905) and third in touchdowns (59). He needs just 52 receptions to break Antonio Gates' franchise record.
In 2023, the six-foot-two wideout set a Chargers single-season record, hauling in 108 passes.
Los Angeles will look to return to the post-season in 2025 after losing out in the wild-card round to the Houston Texans in January. The Chargers finished second in the AFC West with an 11-6 record.
