Buccaneers, Panthers road favourites on Week 3 NFL odds

NFL handicapper Adam Chernoff joins VSiN to make a couple early Week 3 picks, including why the Jags D won't have a chance against Kyler Murray and the Cards, and why he's not ready to give the Rams too much respect against his top rated Bucs.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will be looking to maintain the high-scoring ways that have powered them to a 2-0 start when they visit the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday as slim 1.5-point road favourites on the Week 3 NFL odds at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.

With quarterback Tom Brady flashing mid-season form, Tampa Bay marched to a decisive 48-25 win over the Atlanta Falcons in Week 2, and has now won 10 straight contests going into Sunday afternoon’s matchup at SoFi Stadium.

Brady connected on five scoring passes in Sunday’s victory over the Falcons, giving him nine total so far on the season. That fast start has vaulted the 44-year-old to a vastly improved +650 second favourite on the NFL MVP odds. Brady’s strong start has also fueled the odds of the Bucs going undefeated this season, with the defending champions set as a +2000 wager at online betting sites to close out their schedule with an unblemished 17-0 straight-up record.

The Buccaneers, however, are likely to face a tougher test against the Rams, who return home after escaping with a narrow 27-24 win in Indianapolis on Sunday.

Los Angeles has also benefited from a fast start from its veteran passer. Acquired in a deal with the Detroit Lions during the offseason, Matthew Stafford has joined the NFL MVP conversation as a +1200 wager while throwing five total touchdown passes through his first two outings. The 33-year-old has connected on three scoring passes in each of his past three appearances versus the Buccaneers, and outdueled Brady when the Lions recorded a 26-10 win over the New England Patriots back in September 2018.

Elsewhere on the NFL Week 3 odds, the Carolina Panthers will be looking to remain perfect on the season when they take on the Houston Texans on Thursday Night Football as 7.5-point road chalk. The Panthers kept pace with the Buccaneers in the NFC South standings with a 26-7 rout of the New Orleans Saints last weekend, but have work to do to snap a four-game SU losing streak on Thursday Night Football.

Currently set as one of the best bets to finish the regular season with the NFL’s worst record, the Texans are expected to turn the ball over to rookie passer Davis Mills on Thursday night after seeing veteran quarterback Tyrod Taylor go down with a hamstring injury.

As well, the Buffalo Bills will be looking to build on their crushing 35-0 win over Miami in Week 2 as they host the Washington Football Team as 9-point favourites on Sunday. The Seattle Seahawks hope to rebound from a stunning 33-30 loss to Tennessee as they visit the winless Minnesota Vikings as 2-point favourites, while the Green Bay Packers face the undefeated San Francisco 49ers on Sunday Night Football as 3.5-point underdogs.
