NFL Playoff Tracker: How teams secured spots in Week 17

On the final NFL Sunday of 2023, the Baltimore Ravens and San Francisco 49ers clinched the top spot in their respective conferences, and the Kansas City Chiefs and Los Angeles Rams officially booked their ticket to the 2023 post-season.

Coming into Week 17, there was a lot to be determined, but with the dust settled we can look back at the implications from all 16 matchups.

Here’s a look at this week’s clinching scenarios (with help from, the playoff picture and the Week 17 schedule.

Baltimore Ravens

The Ravens clinched the top seed in the AFC and AFC North titles with their win over Miami.

Cleveland Browns

The Browns clinched a spot with a 37-20 win over the New York Jets on Thursday Night Football.

Kansas City Chiefs

The Chiefs clinched the AFC West title and a playoff berth with their win over Cincinnati.

Buffalo Bills

The Bills, who beat New England, could have clinched a playoff berth with one of the following scenarios, but Pittsburgh, Houston, Jacksonville and Indianapolis all won their matchups.

• BUF win + PIT loss or tie + CIN loss or tie
• BUF win + PIT loss or tie + JAX loss or tie
• BUF win + PIT loss or tie + HOU loss or tie + IND loss or tie
• BUF win + CIN loss or tie + JAX loss or tie

San Francisco 49ers

The 49ers clinched the top seed in the NFC with a win over Washington, a Detroit loss and a Philadelphia loss.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Buccaneers could have clinched the NFC South title and a playoff berth with a win over New Orleans; OR a Tampa tie and Atlanta loss, but lost to the Saints.

Los Angeles Rams

After being the New York Giants, the Rams clinched a playoff berth with Seattle’s loss.

Seattle Seahawks

The Seahawks could have clinched a playoff berth with a win over Pittsburgh and a Green Bay-Minnesota tie, but lost to the Steelers.
