The loss of Levi for any significant amount of time would be a huge blow for the Sabres.
Levi, 21, has stared all four games for the Sabres (1-3) this season after an impressive seven-game run to start his NHL career last season.
Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen and Eric Comrie are the other goalies on Buffalo's roster.
Benson, picked 13th overall in this year's draft, has two assists in four games.
The Sabres host the New York Islanders on Saturday.
Pittsburgh Penguins defenceman Kris Letang and forward Noel Acciari both will be available to face the St. Louis Blues on Saturday, coach Mike Sullivan told reporters after practice on Friday.
Letang was evaluated for a lower-body injury on Thursday, while Acciari was looked at for an upper-body injury.
Sullivan added the team plans to recall another forward to replace Jansen Harkins, who was placed on waivers.
The Columbus Blue Jackets activated defenceman Zach Werenski off injured reserve and designated forward Liam Foudy non-roster and placed him on waivers for the purpose of assignment to the AHL, the team announced Friday.
Werenski was hurt last week when he was on the receiving end of a knee-on-knee hit from Garnet Hathaway of the Philadelphia Flyers.
A two-time all-star, Werenski played only 13 games last season after suffering a serious shoulder injury early in the year.
The Blue Jackets picked Werenski eighth overall in the 2015 NHL Draft.
Foudy had seven goals and seven assists in 62 games for Columbus last season.
The Winnipeg Jets recalled forward Dominic Toninato from the AHL's Manitoba Moose, the team announced Friday.
Toninato, 29, had one assist in five games for the Jets last season. In 2021-22, he had seven goals and seven assists in 77 games for Winnipeg.
Senators defenceman Artem Zub will not play on Saturday against the Detroit Red Wings after suffering an upper-body injury, coach D.J. Smith confirmed to reporters on Friday.
Zub was hit near the ear on a shot by Washington Capitals star Alexander Ovechkin on Wednesday.
The team is listing Zub as day to day.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have recalled forward Pontus Holmberg from the AHL's Toronto Marlies, the team announced Friday.
In a corresponding move, the team loaned defenceman Simon Benoit to the Marlies.
Holmberg, 24, had five goals and eight assists in 37 games with the Maple Leafs last season. In two games with the Marlies this season, he has one goal and one assist.
Benoit has not appeared in a game for Toronto this season. The 25-year-old defenceman spent last season with the Anaheim Ducks, where he had three goals and seven assists in 78 games.
