The Colorado Avalanche have acquired defenceman Devon Toews from the New York Islanders for a pair of second-round draft picks in the 2021 and 2022 NHL Draft.

Toews is a restricted free agent after completing a two-year deal with a $700,000 cap hit. The 26-year-old had six goals and 28 points in 68 games last season for the Islanders while adding 10 points in 22 games during the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

The Abbotsford, B.C., native was selected in the fourth round of the 2014 NHL Draft and saw his ice time with the Islanders go up from 17:54 per game during the 2018-19 season to 20:31 per game this past season.

Colorado recently moved defenceman Nikita Zadorov to the Chicago Blackhawks in a trade for Brandon Saad and re-signed Ryan Graves to a three-year deal.
