The Colorado Avalanche have acquired defenceman Patrik Nemeth from the Detroit Red Wings in exchange for a fourth-round pick in the 2022 NHL Draft.

Nemeth, 29, has recorded two goals and eight points with the Red Wings this season. He ranks third among Detroit defencemen in points and average time-on-ice with 18:24 minutes.

The Swedish blueliner is first among Red Wings defenders in average shorthanded ice time this season with 2:09 minutes.

This will be a return to Colorado for Nemeth as he spent two seasons with the Avalanche from 2017-19. He tallied four goals, 25 points and a plus-32 ranking during his tenure in Colorado.

In his NHL career, the six-foot-three defender has posted seven goals and 56 points in 353 games split between the Red Wings, Avalanche and Dallas Stars.

Nemeth was selected by the Stars in the second round of the 2010 NHL Draft, 41st overall.
