Carl Soderberg is heading back to Colorado.

The Avalanche announced Monday they've acquired the veteran centre from the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for forwards Ryder Rolston and Josh Dickinson.

The 35-year-old had a positive faceoff winning percentage and 15 points, including his seventh goal of the season over the weekend, in 34 games in Chicago.

Soderberg previously spent four seasons in Colorado from 2015 to 2019 after being acquired from the Boston Bruins six years ago. The Malmo, Sweden native recorded 151 points in 321 regular-season games with the Avs before being traded to the Arizona Coyotes during the 2019 off-season. Soderberg is an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season.

Rolston, the son of former NHLer Brian Rolston, is a 19-year-old prospect out of the University of Notre Dame. The right winger is a native of Birmingham, Mich., who was selected by the Avs in the fifth round (139th overall) of the 2020 NHL Draft.

Dickinson, a 23-year-old centre, has spent time with San Antonio and Colorado of the AHL plus the ECHL’s Utah Grizzlies over the past three seasons.
