The Colorado Avalanche acquired forward Yakov Trenin and the rights to unsigned draft pick Graham Sward from the Nashville Predators for defenceman Jeremy Hanzel and a 2025 third-round draft pick, the teams announced Thursday.
In 60 games with Nashville this season, Trenin, 27, scored 10 goals and added four assists for 14 points. The six-foot-two, 201-pound forward has 79 points (46 goals 33 assists) in 283 career regular-season games with Nashville, from 2019-24.
In 58 games with the WHL’s Wenatchee Wild, Sward, 20, has 73 points (15 goals and 58 assists). The Abbotsford, B.C., native is among the WHL's top defencemen in assists (2nd), points (2nd) and goals (T-4th). He was drafted by the Predators in the fifth round (146th overall) of the 2022 NHL Draft.
Hanzel was selected as the Avalanche's sixth-round pick (187th overall) in 2023. The 21-year-old has 13 goals and 37 assists for 50 points in 58 games this season for the WHL’s Seattle Thunderbirds this season.
