It appears Cale Makar is staying in Denver for the foreseeable future.
The Colorado Avalanche are closing in on an extension for their star defenceman, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reported Thursday.
Makar, 27, is one of only 14 players to win multiple Norris Trophies. He captured the award in 2022 and '25 and has been a finalist six years in a row.
This past season, Makar helped the Avalanche win the Presidents’ Trophy by scoring 20 goals and 79 points in 75 games. It was the fourth time in his career that he had hit the 20-goal mark.
The Calgary native also took home a silver medal with Team Canada at the Winter Olympics in February.
Makar, who won the Stanley Cup with the Avs in 2022, is entering the final season of his six-year, $54-million contract.
