The Colorado Avalanche are adding some depth from the collegiate ranks.
Defenceman Gustav Stjernberg has signed with the Avalanche on a two-year, entry-level contract beginning in the 2026-27 season, the team announced Friday.
Additionally, Stjernberg has signed an AHL contract to join the Colorado Eagles for the remainder of the 2025-26 season.
The financial terms of the deal were not initially announced.
The 23-year-old has spent the last three seasons at Bowling Green State University, playing in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association NCAA conference.
He posted six goals and four assists in 25 games over the 2025-26 season, leading his team's blue line in goals while serving as one of the team's alternate captains.
Over his three seasons in collegiate hockey, the Swedish blue-liner notched 14 goals and 23 assists in 86 games for the Falcons.
Prior to joining the NCAA ranks, Stjernberg played for the Des Moines Buccaneers of the USHL and Orebro HK in Sweden's U20 league.
