The Colorado Avalanche will be without two Olympians for an extended period, head coach Jared Bednar confirmed Tuesday.
Captain Gabriel Landeskog is expected to miss “some weeks” with an upper-body injury after crashing into a goalpost, back on Jan. 4 against the Florida Panthers.
Landeskog was down behind the goal for several minutes and was unable to skate off under his own power.
Bednar said it was too early to rule Landeskog out of the Olympics, where he is set to represent Sweden.
Landeskog has appeared in all 41 of Colorado's games this season, scoring seven goals and 15 assists.
The Avalanche are also dealing with a significant absence on the back end, with defenceman Devon Toews listed as week-to-week.
Bednar said a best-case scenario could see Toews return in approximately two weeks, and that the defenceman is expected to be back in the lineup before Landeskog.
Toews was chosen to play for Canada at the Olympics.
