The Chicago Blackhawks have agreed to terms with forward Carl Soderberg on a one-year contract that has a $1-million salary cap hit, the team announced Saturday.
Soderberg spent last season as a member of the Arizona Coyotes, notching 17 goals and 18 assists in 70 regular-season games. The 35-year-old also appeared in nine Stanley Cup Playoff games, scoring one goal and adding one assist.
“Carl is an experienced center who plays a strong two-way game and adds an element of size to our group of centermen,” Stan Bowman, Blackhawks president of hockey operations and general manager, said in a statement. “He has shown the ability to score and match up, which is critical in today’s game, and he also brings consistency and versatility to the team, evidenced by his usage on both special teams as well as even-strength play.”
Soderberg was originally drafted by the Boston Bruins in the 2004 NHL Draft, going in the second round, 49th overall.
Throughout his 552-game NHL career with the Bruins, Colorado Avalanche and Coyotes, he’s scored 103 goals and added 177 assists.
