Connor Bedard's Chicago Blackhawks jersey will look a little different going forward.
The young phenom was named an alternate captain on Tuesday after Connor Murphy was traded to the Edmonton Oilers on Monday.
"He's earned it with his commitment to winning hockey," head coach Jeff Blashill said following the team's overtime loss to the Jets, per Ben Pope of the Chicago Sun-Times. "That's the biggest thing I talked to him about today. He's very competitive; he works hard every day."
Bedard has been one of the best young stars in the NHL since being drafted first overall in 2023, logging 185 points (70 goals, 115 assists) in 198 games.
The 20-year-old has hit another level this season, posting 57 points in 48 games, and now has a letter to show for it.
"There's guys like Murph (Connor Murphy), like Dicky (Jason Dickinson), Like Fliggy (Nick Foligno) that we've learned from for a couple years now," Bedard said after recording two assists in Winnipeg. "Obviously the letter doesn't change anything you do as a person, but it's nice to get recognized like that."
