The Chicago Blackhawks have inked defenceman Riley Stillman to a three-year extension, the club announced Sunday.
The 23-year-old’s new deal will carry a $1.35-million cap hit.
Originally a fourth-round pick of the Florida Panthers back in 2016, Stillman is six games into his stint with Chicago after being acquired by the club earlier this month. The young rearguard has averaged 16:43 minutes per night for his new team.
“Having a young, physical defenceman like Riley in the fold is exciting for the future of our team,” Blackhawks GM Stan Bowman said via a team release. “He is growing into an excellent all-around defenceman and that continued development is something we look forward to seeing firsthand.”
The son of longtime NHLer Cory Stillman, the younger Stillman has 49 total games at the NHL level on his resumé, the other 43 coming over three seasons with the Panthers. He has five career points over that span.
