The swapping of picks continued on Friday night at the 2025 NHL Draft with the Chicago Blackhawks and Carolina Hurricanes getting in on the action.
The Hurricanes traded the 29th overall pick to the Blackhawks in exchange for the 34th and 62nd overall picks in this draft, in addition to a fifth-round pick in 2027.
The Blackhawks then used the 29th overall pick to select Mason West.
West, 17, tallied 49 points (27 goals and 22 assists) in 31 games in 2024-25 for Edina High School in Minnesota. He later joined the USHL's Fargo Force, adding nine points (one goal and eight assists) in 10 games.
The six-foot-six forward is committed to Michigan State University for the 2026–27 season and will return to the Force for 2025–26.
