Columbus Blue Jackets forward Patirk Laine exited Thursday's game against the Toronto Maple Leafs with an upper-body injury and will not return, the team announced.
Laine was injured after colliding awkwardly with Maple Leafs' William Lagesson, whose foot came up to knock Laine off balance. He landed on his shoulder and appeared to be in discomfort as he skated off the ice.
The 25-year-old was sidelined for three weeks in October and November with a concussion. Since making his return to the lineup, he has struggled to regain form, though he scored his sixth goal of the season against the Maple Leafs.
Laine was selected second overall by the Winnipeg Jets in the 2016 NHL Draft and was traded to the Blue Jackets in a blockbuster deal in January 2021.
