Columbus Blue Jackets star defenceman Zach Werenski suffered what the team fears is a long-term upper-body injury on Thursday in a win against the Philadelphia Flyers.
“It’s not good (news) on Z. It’s not good at all," Blue Jackets coach Brad Larsen told reporters, per Aaron Portzline of The Athletic, after the slumping team snapped a five-game losing streak.
Werenski exited in the first period after he went into the boards awkwardly following a missed check on Philadelphia's Travis Konecny.
Before the injury on Thursday, Werenski scored his third goal of the season and added his fifth assist in 13 games.
The Blue Jackets are last in the Eastern Conference with a record of 4-9.
Werenski is a two-time All-Star, most recently last season.
The Blue Jackets selected him in the first round (eighth overall) of the 2015 NHL Draft.
