Doug Armstrong has jumped right back into his day job.
The Team Canada and St. Louis Blues general manager kicked off the trade-deadline drive on Tuesday by dealing forward Matt Luff to the New York Islanders for forward Julien Gauthier, the teams announced.
The trade deadline is March 6 at 3 p.m. ET.
Luff, 28, has 39 points (14 goals, 25 assists) in 42 AHL games this season.
The Oakville, Ont., native has skated in 111 career NHL contests with the Los Angeles Kings, Detroit Red Wings, Nashville Predators and Blues, recording 16 goals and 12 assists.
Gauthier, also 28, owns seven points in 14 AHL games on the season.
The Pointe-aux-Trembles, Que., native is a veteran of 181 NHL games, in which he's scored 19 goals with 22 assists in time with the Carolina Hurricanes, New York Rangers, Ottawa Senators and Islanders.
