The St. Louis Blues and defenceman Niko Mikkola have avoided arbitration. The restricted free agent put pen to paper on a one-year contract worth $1.9 million on Sunday.

The Finnish blueliner will become an unrestricted free agent at the end of his new deal.

The 26-year-old picked up a career-high 13 points (three goals, 10 assists) for the Blues last season.

Mikkola added one assist in 12 playoff games. The Blues reached the second round of the 2022 Stanley Cup Playoffs where they were eliminated in six games by the eventual champions Colorado Avalanche.
