Zdeno Chara is returning to the Boston Bruins.
The Bruins announced Thursday that Chara has been named the team's hockey operations adviser and mentor.
Chara, the longtime blue-liner, will work closely with players and staff, supporting communication between coaches and players and helping develop defencemen while also assisting with the AHL club, the team said.
"Zdeno will share his experience as a dedicated athlete, a respected leader and one of the NHL's all-time greats," Bruins GM Don Sweeney said in a statement.
Bruins head coach Marco Sturm also lauded the move.
"Having played alongside Zdeno, I know the leadership and professionalism he brings. His knowledge will be a great resource for our players and staff," Sturm said.
Chara, 48, spent 14 seasons with Boston, serving as captain and leading the team to the 2011 Stanley Cup while playing over 1,000 games with the club. He retired in 2022 and is set to be inducted into the Hall of Fame in November.
For his career, the hulking Slovakian skated in 1,680 games with the New York Islanders, Ottawa Senators, Bruins and Washington Capitals, recording 209 goals and 471 assists.
