Jeremy Swayman only lasted 20 minutes in a head-to-head meeting with his former batterymate.
The Boston Bruins pulled Swayman in the first intermission after he allowed four goals on 15 shots against Linus Ullmark and the Ottawa Senators.
Swayman was replaced by Joonas Korpisalo, who the Bruins acquired in the off-season from the Senators for Ullmark.
The Bruins had tremendous success over three years with Swayman and Ullmark sharing the net before the club decided to split the duo up. The duo shared the William Jennings Trophy in 2022-23 for allowing the fewest goals against in a season. That season also saw Ullmark win the Vezina Trophy and the Bruins set an NHL record with 65 wins.
But with both players in line for contract extensions, the Bruins traded Ullmark to Ottawa and went through an extended contract negotiation with Swayman that was resolved only days before the season began. The Bruins signed Swayman to an eight-year, $66-million contract that began this season, while the Senators extended Ullmark after the trade for four years and $33 million beginning next season. Both contracts carry $8.25 million salary cap hits.
While Ullmark has battled some injuries, he has outperformed Swayman so far this year with a .913 save percentage and 2.67 goals-against average in 32 games entering Thursday. Swayman has a career-low .899 save percentage in a career-high 47 starts this season.
The Senators won the game 6-3.
