With the NHL trade deadline less than one week away, the Montreal Canadiens are holding defenceman Ben Chiarot out of the lineup Tuesday against the Arizona Coyotes.

Head coach Martin St. Louis confirmed the move, saying it was a decision by management.

Chiarot, who is on an expiring contract, has been connected in trade talks for multiple weeks now. He has 18 points and 42 penalty minutes in 54 games this season, while averaging a career-high 23:33 in ice time.

St. Louis said a number of players — including forward Artturi Lehkonen — will be game-time decisions Tuesday. Sam Montembeault will get the start in net.
